Get better faster.  Spend less time in pain.  As your primary care provider for musculoskeletal pain or injury, we do not believe in relying on guesswork, and neither should you. Pioneering the advancement of physical therapy, Apex is one of only two practices in Florida to offer diagnostic testing with EMG/NCS and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. These diagnostic tools allow us to more accurately see the source of your pain, injury, or limitation; implement a laser-focused treatment plan; and get you back in the game faster.

EMG/NCS

EMG/NCS testing consists of two distinct tests that evaluate muscle and nerve health.

Neuromuscular disorders can cause muscles to react abnormally, leading to pain and limitations. During an Electromyogram (EMG), a small pin is inserted in the muscle to evaluate its condition by measuring electrical activity while the muscle is at rest and during contraction.

Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) evaluate nerve health. Mild electrical stimulation is administered to the skin directly over the affected nerve. The response is measured by electrodes applied to the skin surface, which produces a visual signal that can provide information about the condition of the nerve.

Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

While X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs have long been the standard for evaluating musculoskeletal problems, clinical evidence and research support using ultrasound as the first diagnostic test.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSK) offers a more functional and practical approach to evaluate joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and even nerves.

It also provides several advantages, including:

  • Noninvasive evaluation
  • No exposure to radiation
  • Real-time imaging of structures at rest and in motion, which can provide more accurate diagnoses
